Statements about my art
My works aim to communicate, to stimulate thought, to evoke emotions, to shake things up and move people. They do not offer readily accessible visual solutions, but rather leave behind signs, traces, and forms that point to an unseen reality, while giving viewers ample room for interpretation.
The main goal is to create a visual and emotional dialogue between the viewer and the painting. My paintings should offer contrasting perspectives and place contemporary ideas into compelling viewpoints. For me, painting is a source of energy, a counterbalance, and a necessity.
“Besides similarities to lyrical abstraction and abstract expressionism, Edith Boge’s paintings also contain surrealist elements, echoes of Art Brut, graffiti-like scriptural sections, and an impetuous vehemence, excitement, and a courage to take risks” (Michael Nungesser, Berlin, art historian).
